Definitions...

These are words used throughout our site and are words you may hear if you were attending church for the first time.    However, we realize many people do not attend church and may not be familiar with what these words mean.  As such, we have provided a link to these definitions at the bottom of every page for your reference.

Believe - Trust; accept

Bible Verse - A place in the Bible where it says...

Born Again - Changed; transformed; born spiritually; made spiritually alive

Burden - Be concerned

Christ - Jesus, God's son

Christian - follower of Christ (Jesus); one committed to living the way God wants us to; one who trusts or relies on Jesus.

Confess - Admit

Converted - Changed; transformed

Faith - Knowledge of God, understanding that God is working; reliance on God

Glorify - To honor God

Good News - The truth God wants us to know; God's message to the world

Gospel - God loves us and sent his son Jesus so that we can find forgiveness and new life through him; the truth God wants us to know or teach; God's message to the world.

Grace - Unmerited favor; unearned love; God giving us what we don't deserve (see "mercy")

Great Commission - Essentially, The Great Commission is a command or series of commands, commissioning all believers to make disciples from people they are in contact with at any time of their life. Although The Great Commission calls individuals to service, Jesus fully intended the church, as a group of individuals, to achieve this task. An individual may do their part 100% faithfully (and will be rewarded in heaven accordingly), but the full result of The Great Commission will not be realized and achieved unless an entire team of committed individuals (The leadership of a local Church) commits themselves to the goal. 

Holy Spirit - God the spirit; the spirit of God

Invitation - Opportunity to commit to Jesus

Jehovah - God

Jesus - The person God promised to send to pay the penalty for what we do wrong

Lord - God, creator

Lost - Those people who have not yet determined to believe or follow Jesus.

Mercy - God not giving us what we do deserve (see "grace")

Messiah - Jesus, God's son

Minister - Teach about Jesus

Non-Believer - Those people who have not yet determined to believe or follow Jesus.

Non-Christian - Those people who have not yet determined to believe or follow Jesus.

Praise - Thanking God for his greatness

Pray - To talk or converse with God, conversation with God

Preach - Talk about

Redeem - To pay a price to regain possession

Repent - To be sorry about wrongs and turn from them; to change one's mind about a former practice.

Resurrection  - The rising again of all the human dead before the final judgment.

Sacrifice - Jesus died in our place

Salvation - Forgiven of wrongs and given eternal life.

Saved - Accept Jesus; make a decision to follow Jesus; forgiven of wrongs and given eternal life.

Savior - Jesus, God's son

Scripture - A place in the Bible where it says...

Sin (sinner) - Acting against God's will; to break God's rules; to do what God doesn't want us to do.

Spiritual - Affecting the eternal part of a person.

Testimony - Telling what God has done in one's life.

Witness - Tell; show

Worship - Giving honor and glory to God

Yahweh - God
